New National Security Archive Collection on Peru

Peru: Human Rights, Drugs and Democracy, 1980-2000, the latest collection in the Digital National Security Archive, has just been released. This detailed collection of records documents U.S. foreign policy at work in Latin America, as well as sheds light on domestic politics in Peru. "Incorporating the latest U.S. government releases, which significantly enrich the historical record, these documents, virtually all previously classified, provide a compelling primary-source portrait of Peru's civil war, internal repression, and growing authoritarianism during three successive Peruvian administrations, as witnessed by the U.S. embassy in Lima, U.S. military officials, and U.S. intelligence. Simply put, there is no available compilation of materials on the subject that comes close to the quality and extent of coverage provided by this collection." -- Publisher.

Dissertations & Theses Full Text

ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Full Text is now available! Access more than 1 million full text dissertations (pdf) -- this includes most Ph.D. dissertations and Master's theses written since 1997 from universities around the U.S. as well as a strong retrospective collection of earlier works. Citations to earlier dissertations (written since 1861) are also available via the database. Each year more than 60,000 new full text dissertations will be added to the database.

You will find links to this database in the "Dissertations & Theses" section of Reference Tools and the Articles and Research Databases link on the UW Libraries homepage.

HAPI and PRISMA bring LAS fulltext articles to you!

Over the summer the Libraries purchased access to two LAS databases with links to fulltext articles: the Hispanic American Periodicals Index (HAPI) and Publicaciones y revistas sociales y humanĂsticas (PRISMA). Designed to work together, these databases give you content to hundreds of periodicals published in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the U.S. You can specify English language only, or see articles in French, Spanish, and Portuguese. For most searches, start with HAPI and don't use the "limit to fulltext" option, even if you only want fulltext (that limit excludes links to fulltext that the Libraries has added, so choosing that option means you would only get a small subset of fulltext.) For the most comprehensive search, continue with PRISMA, which has about 15-20 fulltext journals not available through HAPI.

Links to these databases can be found on the Latin American Studies subject page, the best starting point for LAS library research.
